Following the success of the first chapter that enchanted children and adults alike, “Inside Out 2” has finally arrived in Italian cinemas, offering a new adventure filled with laughter and emotion.
Directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen, the film has already dominated, in the U.S. and Canada, the box office this past weekend, grossing an impressive $155 million and marking the best theatrical debut of 2024.
The story finds a teenage Riley grappling with a whirlwind of emotions. A revolution is underway in the Headquarters of her mind, and the emotions we have come to know, such as Joy and Sadness, soon find themselves in the company of new ‘colleagues’ such as Anxiety.
The film teaches how every aspect of our being, every nuance, is fundamental to building the person we are, even that seemingly unbearable anxiety that sometimes grips us. It was a precise choice, as director Kelsey Mann explained during the presentation press conference, “There are already so many films about teenagers intent on dealing with the problems of first crushes, first falling in love. I wanted to do something different, to analyze different emotions. Riley falls in love with the most important person: herself.”
Adding further depth to the tale is the soundtrack, composed by Andrea Datzman, a well-known name in the world of animation and major Disney works. Among her most famous contributions are soundtracks for such films as “Zootropolis,” “Inside Out” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” as well as work for “Apes Revolution – Planet of the Apes,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” and “Cars 2.”
Each scene in the film is masterfully accompanied by music that amplifies the emotions experienced by the characters and viewers. One of the most fascinating themes is undoubtedly the one dedicated to curiosity and discovery, emotions that emerge in Riley.
